B1: Jobs in the Industry
Employment within the Industry- Jobs
Furthering my research into the industry, looking at the availability of jobs will help me see what positions I may be interested in and to help place more structure into my future plans in Media.
Example Job Roles
BBC (found using the BBC careers website):
Social Media Manager-
Responsibilities include curating content for the social media accounts and pages, developing posts that "distribute short form assets to support the radio's priorities" and build awareness of the radio networks.
Key skills include:
- Passionate about and interested in the BBC
- Ability to optimise and edit audio and video posts
- Experience with filming and photographing
- Experience working with client and talent to produce content
As this role requires a lot of experience handling social media pages and working with clients, it would not be the best to apply for by someone who lacks this. However, it is a good role to work towards and is something that I think I would enjoy.
Presenter for evening show-
Responsibilities include knowing the area inside out, have a passion for radio, come up with new ideas for content, excellent organisation and be responsible for setting up the show.
Key skills include:
- Be enthusiastic and energetic
- Knowledge of radio and how it works
- Experience in presenting
- Able to learn new technology
This role may be unrealistic, however understanding what is needed for it gives me and insight as to what skills should be developed and what type of person goes into presenting and jobs of this essence.
Journalist-
Responsibilities include full of creative ideas for new content, produce programmes, able to be out and about, knowledgable with social media.
Key skills include:
- Know how to construct, edit and read BBC radio bulletins
- Technical knowledge of playout systems
- Able to work independently
- Experience dealing with talent
- Experience writing cues/questions
- Experience curating content
A journalism role is something that never interested me in the past, yet the more research I do, the more it interests me. This role in particular that requires you to be knowledgable with social media recognises that journalism may slowly be turning digital, and is changing with the times.
