B1: Logo design
Logo Design
My final product:
I began with a plain background, which I then inserted a plain circle outline onto. This was so that I had a structure to work from, which I could base everything else around. Once this was in place, I downloaded a leaf vector to try and incorporate into the circle. The one I chose was straight, meaning I had to use the 'transform tool' to get it to fit perfectly around the circle outline. Using the 'scale' option, I could maximise the image so that it was the right scale. Then, I used the 'warp' option to slowly bend the vector to get it to my desired shape. This took a long time, as I would be stretching one area, but this would condense the area opposite. It was tricky to find a balance but it meant I could fit it perfectly. I duplicated this and arranged them on opposite sides of the circle.
So then I now had a circle with leaves. As I decided the colour scheme was going to be simple and pretty, I was able to get the perfect pastel lilac by using the colour wheel. Using the brush tool, I played around with different brush tips and textures. I really had no clue on what design I was aiming for, I just wanted to incorporate a bit of colour to the outline. Selecting a low percent 'hardness' I started just putting the lilac over the leaves, making sure to keep it symmetrical and light. The outcome was cloud-like and I loved how it wasn't too tidy. I also made sure to change the opacity to give the logo some definition, making sure it wasn't all just one shade.
Evaluation:
Now that I had added my colour, I took to the DaFont website to try and find a free font that would fit my brand. I chose sans serif to imply a sense of friendliness and informality. Once I had selected the perfect font, I downloaded this and imported it to Photoshop. As there isn't a sector that I am most interested in (such as photography or directing) I decided to go with 'Lucy Martin Media' to keep it broad, even thought it is still a media brand. The text in the middle of the circle looked good, but I decided to use the 'warp' feature once again to arch the text, so it wasn't just thrown in the middle of the circle.
Overall, I am extremely happy with how my second draft came out. As I lost my first draft due to only saving to desktop, I am unable to compare the progress between the two. I developed my Photoshop skills immensely through this task, as it was my first time experimenting with many layers and making use of the brush tools.
