B1: Digital Profiles

B1: Digital Profiles Digital profiles allow you to store your personal and professional details and information online. It can include information about an individuals connections, behaviours, interactions etc. Digital profiles are mainly used in marketing and recruitment, which helps the organisation identify potential employees. Their behaviour online can determine to a company whether the individual may be right for them or not. One of the most successful ways to build a professional digital profile is through using social media. According to Microsoft, 21% of adults surveyed were fired from a job, because of their online image. As 56% said they do not actively think of the consequences of their online activities, it is important for us to start thinking about this now.

B1: First Draft CV

Image
First Draft CV After initial research, this is the CV I first produced which included limited contact information, work experience and place of education. Following a template available from Microsoft Word gave me an efficient way to structure my own CV and maximise the space for lengthier pieces of information, such as work experience. I chose this template as I admired the professional layout, which was easy to read and presented my information in an an aesthetically pleasing way. However, CV's are constantly being edited, as more experience is being gained and new skills are being produced each day. Yet, this was an efficient base for me to work with and continue updating as I go. Having the knowledge that we would be creating things like website's and logo's later on in the unit, I left empty spaces for me to go back and update my CV once completing these tasks. B1: Constructing a CV

Image
Constructing a CV CV's (or curriculum vitae) according to the Reed website  is a "writen overview of skills, education and work experience". Most commonly, used by hopeful employees to send to prospective employers. It is a good indicator to employers on who you are as a person and whether you will be a good addition to the company / organisation.  Also on this website, there are tips on how to ensure your CV is "clear, concise and easy to read". These include: Being logical Keeping it brief Making sure spelling and grammar is correct Selecting a professional font Using a template Using headings and bullet points appropriate It is extremely important to do research into CV's before creating your own. If CV's are constructed with no knowledge on how to write it or what to include, this may be inferred by employers as very unprofessional. Here is an example CV, including all the crucial information needed.  The key parts of this CV which I believe would b...

B1: Jobs in the Industry

Image
Employment within the Industry- Jobs  Furthering my research into the industry, looking at the availability of jobs will help me see what positions I may be interested in and to help place more structure into my future plans in Media.    Example Job Roles BBC (found using the BBC careers website ): Social Media Manager-  Responsibilities include curating content for the social media accounts and pages, developing posts that "distribute short form assets to support the radio's priorities" and build awareness of the radio networks. Key skills include:   Passionate about and interested in the BBC  Ability to optimise and edit audio and video posts Experience with filming and photographing  Experience working with client and talent to produce content     As this role requires a lot of experience handling social media pages and working with clients, it would not be the best to apply for by someone who lacks this. However, it is a good rol...

B1: Employment in Industry

Image
Employment within the Industry There are endless sectors in the Media Industry which all offer various different roles, although these are extremely competitive. These are important to research into, to gain insight on the areas where there may be gaps and to see where it may not be best to try and kickstart my career. As I cannot yet pinpoint exactly the job title I would want, research is key to discovering what will be the best fit. Dream roles for me would be radio/TV presenting and journalism work, yet more realistic roles range from runner to coming up with content ideas. Some of the biggest Media companies in the UK are  ITV ,  BBC ,  Channel 4 ,  Sky  etc. They all individually have a number of employees who help the company run the best it can.    Television and Radio jobs include the likes of producers, researchers, journalists, runners, camera operators, editors and talent. They also require many technical support roles to be filled s...

B1: Higher Education

Image
Higher Education One of the biggest helps in researching university courses, apprenticeship options etc. has been UCAS. The new hub feature allows you to keep your favourite courses, universities, locations etc.  in one place, helps build your personal statement, calculates UCAS points and so much more. I have always been 50/50 on the idea of university, but hopefully through this research, I will be able to discover exactly what it is I want to be d oing or what may not be the best option for me.  So far on my academic search, courses that appeal to me include anything to do with radio, theatre, TV and film. Although these are still broad areas, searching for courses allows me to see what interests me throughout different courses and universities.   To kickstart my research, one thing I do know is that I would not like to be too far from home, as I am undecided whether I would want to move out or not. This narrows down my searches as I can look at local universities and ...

B1: My Inspirations

B1: My Media Inspirations Having inspirations, especially in industries I am interested in, allows me to see what areas from their careers I would like to follow suit in, but also which areas that may not be best for me. Most of those who inspire me have been there for me to watch whilst growing up, therefore have had a massive impact on the person I am today and the person I hope to be in industry. One of my biggest inspirations in media is Zoe Sugg. Not only was she someone for me to look up to growing up, she still continues to inspire me as I am starting to progress into adulthood. She started off as a blogger, which gained attention that was able to give her a huge YouTube platform (having nearly 11 million subscribers currently). Zoe has amassed a number of awards, from winning "UK's favourite vlogger" to being nominated for "Social Media Superstar" at the Global Awards. Her honesty about her mental health and journey with her struggles through her career...
